Shovel Knight Board Game Kickstarter Canceled, Will Relaunch Soon

Shovel Knight Board Game Kickstarter Canceled, Will Relaunch Soon

Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels' board game Kickstarter has been canceled, with plans to relaunch mid-August with 2D and 3D versions.

Early this month, Yacht Club Games and Panda Cult Games teamed up and revealed what sounded like a dream come true for Shovel Knight fans: a themed board game that would be hitting Kickstarter called Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels.

However, just recently there was an update to the Panda Cult Games Kickstarter page announcing that the current crowdfunding would be canceled. According to the status update, the campaign will relaunch in mid-August and bring with it some extensive changes to the product. Below is what some of these changes will entail:

One of the most common comments was about our base pledge price, and similar ideas on how to adjust it. Our original idea was for the board game to have beautiful models based on the incredible and lively art that carries so much of that Shovel Knight charm in it! That being said, models do introduce a certain price point issue, so we decided to create a brand new pledge level that will include a version of Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels with standees instead of models! This will dramatically reduce the barrier of entry from $70 to $30-$35. So we will officially have two pledge levels:

  • Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels 2D, priced at $30-$35. This version will trade out models for standees, reducing the costs but still giving you all the fun of the boardgame!
  • Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels 3D, priced at the original $70 level. This version will contain highly detailed pre-assembled models in colored plastic.

They also clarified that more changes would be on the way and revealed through various video updates. Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels is a side-scrolling board game where you deal with enemies and obstacles. You can play with up to four people, and the now 3D version will include models for Shovel Knight, Plague Knight, King Knight, and Spectre Knight, all in the different colors from the game. Panda Cult Games has stated that there will be 36 models at launch with plans for more.

The most recent expansion to hit the main game was Shovel Knight: King of Cards. And in more interesting news, it turns out that the game’s trademark pixel graphics is actually rendered in 3D.
