Shuhei Yoshida: No Plans for PS4 Remote Play on Smartphones and Tablets

With the announcement of the PlayStation App and talks about bringing the Gaikai cloud services to PC and smart devices, some users put two and two together and wondered if Sony is planning to bring the remote play feature to smartphones and tablets as well.

Today a Japanese Twitter user asked that question to SCE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida:

Here’s a translation of the question and answer:

Q: Hello Yoshida-san! Since the PS Vita can play almost all PS4 games with remote play, are there any plans to allow remote play by connecting the DualShock 4 to smart devices in the future? I got very excited at the thought when I realized it.

A: There are no plans.

The idea was interesting, but I can’t help being a bit relieved to hear that not every PlayStation feature will be available on smartphones.

This also a rather smart business decision, as Remote Play will probably prove a strong selling point for the PS Vita, and making it available on other devices would ultimately cancel that advantage.
