Today, via the PlayStation Blog, Sony announced that it has open beta test sign-ups for the PS4's system software update 4.5, which is the platform's next major update.

Sign-ups will be open from today and run until the start of beta in early February. Once the beta starts, registrations will shut up shop.

If you're in North America, you sign up here, and if you're somewhere in Europe, you can sign up here.

If you get into the beta, you'll receive an email with instructions on how to download the beta version onto your system. In order to sign up, you will need and internet connection, access to a Master Account, and be 18 years or older. As always, you can roll back to the previous system software at any time.

Sony has said it will "be back soon" with an update on the features that you can expect in the beta.
