Ubisoft’s Skull & Bones should be releasing at some point in 2019 but before the game ever hits store shelves, it seems as though Ubisoft has even more plans for the property.

As shared by The Hollywood Reporter, Ubisoft is preparing to create a television show based off of the world of Skull & Bones. The publisher is working with Atlas Entertainment to create the show which is said to contain a female lead role. The Skull & Bones TV show will be set in the 1700s and will take place upon the Indian Ocean.

Ubisoft’s director of development Danielle Kreinik said of the move, “Ubisoft is known for creating innovative video games that combine immense worlds with rich narratives.” Kreinik will serve as an executive producer on the show along with VP Jason Altman. Amanda Segel will be the writer of the show’s pilot while Atlas’ Andy Horwitz and Richard Suckle will also serve in executive producing roles.

This move seems to be amongst many others that have signaled Ubisoft’s desire in recent years to get more into film and TV. Following the release of the Michael Fassbender-led Assassin’s Creed back in 2016, Ubisoft has also announced plans to create a film in the world of The Division, which is currently pegged to star Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain. Whether or not any of these forthcoming shows of films become a hit remains to be seen, but they each seem to prove that Ubisoft is trying to do more than just create video games.

It seems a bit odd to start creating a Skull & Bones TV show before the game itself has ever released, but considering how long it’ll likely take for this show to hit the air, I guess it makes a bit of sense. As for the video game itself, Skull & Bones is set to launch at some point this year and will arrive on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
