Skullgirls to be Reborn as Skullgirls Encore, Squigly to Hit Consoles in January

We reported earlier this month about the alarming goings-on involving Skullgirls, publisher Konami and developer Reverge Labs. The game’s official website has today been updated with a ton of new information about what will happen with the acclaimed title going forward.

Next month, Skullgirls will be relaunched as Skullgirls Encore, which is for all intents and purposes a different game. Skullgirls Encore will be rolled out differently depending on your platform and region, but generally fans will not have to re-purchase the game to continue playing online. Also, only Xbox 360 and PS3 players need be concerned with the changes, as the Steam version of the game will see no change whatsoever.

Skullgirls Encore will also be released in tandem with the Squigly DLC for consoles, which will be available for free download as promised for the first three months.

The news that Skullgirls had been “delisted” was initially quite troubling, but it seems the game will be far from negatively influenced.
