Best known as the publisher behind influential comic book series like The Walking Dead and more, Skybound Entertainment is looking more to expand its reach into other platforms, with the company having announced it will now expand into video games publishing.

In a statement on the company's website, Skybound Entertainment has announced that it will be launching Skybound Games, which will be the company's new division specifically tailored towards video game publishing. The new division will be led by former 505 Games co-founder Ian Howe, and the studios' first two titles to be published in the retail market will be Slime Ranchers and The Long Dark. Both titles are set to arrive at retail for PS4 and Xbox One in September of this year.

Howe explained in a statement that "partnering with David Alpert, Robert Kirkman, and the rest of the Skybound team is the perfect home for a new video games publishing venture, given their continued dedication to creators in all forms of media." He also added that "the company we are building will not only provide a full range of publishing services but will also offer opportunities for game creators to expand their intellectual properties into other forms of media via Skybound’s existing relationships.”

Skybound also detailed that while the company will continue to license several of its own properties to other studios for mobile and console games, such as The Walking Dead, Skybound Games itself will focus on working with independent creators and developers to "create new IPs and further expand Skybound properties."
