In a stunning woodworking project, a Skyrim fan recreated one of Skyrim's most recognizable pieces of architecture - the Nordic Puzzle Door.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is, undoubtedly, an iconic game. Though about a decade old, the game continues to have a dedicated fan base of players and creators.

As a Skyrim fan, Reddit user u/energizerturtle2 decided to take on an ambitious project to pay tribute to the game. Through a combination of woodworking, mechanism engineering, and paint, they were able to recreate one of Skyrim's most recognizable puzzles.

U/ENERGIZERTURTLE2'S RECREATION OF THE ICONIC SKYRIM PUZZLE DOOR

First posted to the r/Skyrim subreddit, u/energizerturtle2 showed off a stunning build of one of Skyrim's iconic Nordic puzzle doors. Originally their 2020 quarantine project, u/energizerturtle2 aimed to recreate the puzzle door as a combo lock.

Even though the project was lengthy, the end result is so worth it. It appears every bit like the original architectural puzzle, especially the intricate carvings. The wood-worked mechanism looks well-fitted, even with the complication of the rings. u/energizerturtle2 stated that the project took a few months, working on and off each day for a few hours. It's a pretty hefty time investment, but an equally pretty recreation.

Not just a fancy build, this recreation was meant to be a mechanism for a trunk u/energizerturtle2 had also built. They say that the lock continues to be a bit buggy, but the practical use makes this project one of a kind. Additionally, the real-world use is a fun touch, adding a bit of Skyrim flair to the everyday.

What makes these doors especially iconic are the three rotating rings built into their front face. Beautiful and intricate, these puzzle doors required players to use a coordinating dragon claw key and spin the door's rings to unlock. u/energizerturtle2 had actually attempted to make their own dragon claw key, but had "failed horribly." Unfortunately, their mechanism currently doesn't function smoothly enough for the claw to turn the center on its own. But who knows - perhaps one day soon it will be!
