Skyrim's Special Edition's Textures are Even Higher Resolution than the High Resolution Pack for PC

June 12, 2016

If you’re wondering just how much effort has gone into remastering the art assets of the newly revealed The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition for PS4, Xbox One and PC, Director Todd Howard provided a few interesting tidbits during an interview on the post-show livestream.

According to Howard, the new textures are even higher resolution than the optional High Resolution Texture Pack that was released post launch exclusively for PC by Bethesda. On top of that, all of the shader work is much more advanced.

That said, Howard mentioned that PC gamers had a similar experience to what we can expect by using some really high-end mods, which is why those who already own all the content for the game will get a free copy of the Special Edition.

Hailing from sunny (not as much as people think) Italy and long standing gamer since the age of Mattel Intellivision and Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Definitely a multi-platform gamer, he still holds the old dear PC nearest to his heart, while not disregarding any console on the market. RPGs (of any nationality) and MMORPGs are his daily bread, but he enjoys almost every other genre, prominently racing simulators, action and sandbox games. He is also one of the few surviving fans of the flight simulator genre on Earth.
