Toei Animation, the studio behind Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Slam Dunk, has confirmed that another Slam Dunk project is in the works. The studio will be creating a brand new Anime movie titled "The First Slam Dunk".

Takehiko Inoue's Slam Dunk is a popular sports manga series that ran from October 1990 to June 1996, during this time, Inoue released 276 individual manga chapters that were collected into 31 volumes. With over 170 million copies sold, Slam Dunk is one of the best-selling manga series of all time. Toei Animation aired the Slam Dunk anime adaptation from October 1993 to March 1996.

Back in January of last year, the mangaka Takehiko Inoue announced that he is writing and directing the upcoming Slam Dunk anime film. Of course, it was exciting to hear that Inoue is deeply involved with the project; however, the author or Toei didn't reveal much about the film's plot or cast. Also, fans have been eagerly waiting to see an official trailer for the film. Well, the wait is finally over as Toei Animation has released the first official PV teaser for The First Slam Dunk. The teaser gives fans their first look at Takenori Akagi, Hananichi Sakuragi, Kaede Rukawa, and Hisashi Mitsui.

The teaser for The First Slam Dunk confirms that Toei is going with the 3DCG animation for the film. The anime community usually prefers 2D animation over CGI, so fans aren't exactly happy that Toei is using CG animation in the Slam Dunk movie. However, let's not forget that Takehiko Inoue is in the director's seat, so the CGI might be the author's stylistic choice. Also, Toei did some great work with CGI in previous projects like Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, so there's no chance the studio would miss the mark with Slam Dunk.

Toei Animation will release The First Slam Dunk in Japan on December 3rd, 2022; however, the studio has yet to give us an international release date. Anyway, you can expect the studio to release more information regarding the movie soon. We might also get another trailer for the film to give us a better look at the animation.
