Despite a mixed legacy when it comes to supporting the eSports scenes around Super Smash Bros., Nintendo wants their fans to know that they acknowledge the serious players of their games. The game company announced today that they will kick off 2019 with two major tournaments, one for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the other for Splatoon 2.Nintendo had previously held official invitational tournaments, with the last one coming before the release of Ultimate during E3 2018. Similarly, the Splatoon 2 World Championships were held around the same time. The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate North America Open 2019 will be inclusive to players of all skill levels, with three online qualifying events giving competitors the chance to represent their region for a final event at PAX East.Online qualifier events will be held on February 2, February 16, and March 9, with the finals for each event being on February 9, March 2, and March 16, respectively. Only the top player from each region in the qualifier finals will advance to the final event at PAX East. All three online qualifier finals events will be live-streamed.Meanwhile, the Splatoon 2 North America Inkling Open 2019 will have a single online qualifier event on February 10. Teams of four players (with one alternate player) will compete until the top eight teams come out on top.
