SMITE, the third-person MOBA by Hi-Rez studios, has introduced a new arena game mode to their beta. In arena, the 5v5 battle gains a point-based objective, where each side can slay minions and enemies until they deduct a total of 500 points from the opposing team. Featuring side-objectives, buff camps and Gryphon Guardians, the new mode is said to throw players into an open-combat situation quicker than the main game.

The arena map was made by one of Hi-Rez's level designers in his own time, and the studio loved it so much that they added it to the game as an official mode. It's nice to see that sort of initiative and creativity rewarded. Players interested in the godly battleground need only to participate in the SMITE beta, which is currently underway.
