NetherRealm studios issued a press release today announcing the official launch of their latest DLC character for Injustice 2. Those familiar with the Mortal Kombat series will recognize Sub-Zero, the other mascot of the franchise opposite to Scorpion. The ice ninja is the second character to be added post-launch and is the second character in the 'Fighter Pack 1'. The entire 3 'superheroes' in the pack can be purchased for $19.99 USD or you can get the Ultimate pack which contains all 9 DLC characters (and some skins and shaders) for $39.99 USD. If you're looking to just add Sub-Zero to your collection, it'll cost you $6.99 USD but he won't be available a la carte until July 18th.

The release date for the final character (the first being Red Hood) of Fighter Pack 1, Star Sapphire, has not been announced but based on the history with the other 2 combatants, she should be out mid August. The remaining 6 post-launch characters have yet to be revealed but some of the silhouettes in the DLC reveal trailer are pretty telling.

While Sub-Zero isn't necessarily a superhero nor villain, his ice manipulation powers are right at home among Captain Cold or Firestorm. His launch trailer shows a mix of classic moves and new surprises such as double ice clones. His options for his gear and shaders are also cool (pun intended) as you can dress and color him to represent the other ROYGBIV ninjas from the MK franchise. Also worthy of noting is that the legendary comic artist Jim Lee designed Subbie's look for the game.

As for Sub-Zero's placement in the Injustice 2 world, the official website has this for his bio:

"Sub-Zero is a lethal cryomancer and leader of the reformed Lin Kuei clan. When Sub-Zero was younger, the Lin Kuei were corrupted and destroyed from within, staining their honor. Now serving as Grandmaster, Sub-Zero vows to redeem that honor, pledging to defend the realm from threats near, far, and beyond. In the intergalactic menace Brainiac, Sub-Zero sees a threat to all worlds, and perhaps his greatest opportunity for redemption yet."

This completes NetherRealm's invasion of crossover mascots from Mortal Kombat as Scorpion appeared in the original Injustice. But if those teaser silhouette's tell us anything it's that Raiden is out there on the horizon.
