Having lived in America my entire life, I don't have the faintest clue about the rules of soccer [Editor's Note: that's why you call it soccer... - G]. Whenever I sit down with a group of (admittedly) more cultured friends, I find myself confused about some of the more intricate rules of the game. As you could imagine, this lack of knowledge makes me awful at games like FIFA 18 and Pro Evolution Soccer. Thankfully, for unsophisticated folks like me, developer Atooi has announced Soccer Slammers for the Nintendo Switch, an arcade-style take on the sport with "no rules".

Soccer Slammers offers an alternative for folks that only understand soccer at its most basic level-- taking a ball and putting it inside of the opponent's net. There are no corner kicks, no offside rules, and most importantly, no penalties. Controlling a team of two cube-shaped characters, players will be able to simulate a World Cup or play a quick match as one of forty different teams.

Despite being simple in design, Soccer Slammers offers a wide array of diverse mechanics. Players will be able to execute combos, tackles, power shots, and other more advanced techniques. Seeing as the game allows up to four players, I'm looking forward to a summer filled with heated, nail-biting, couch co-op skirmishes against my friends that are more familiar with the sport.

Soccer Slammers will be released for the Nintendo Switch on June 14th. Check out the games' announcement trailer below.
