Sony Online Entertainment LLC today announced that Quinne Larsen of Northridge, California was this year's winner of the G.I.R.L scholarship. The scholarship was established in '08 to encourage women to seek careers in the fields of video game development and design. Larsen, a student at the California Institute of the Arts, majoring in character animation, won $10,000.00 to put toward tuition and other educational costs.

I was over the moon when I learned that I won the G.I.R.L. Scholarship, I can't thank SOE enough for this opportunity and I look forward to furthering my passion and knowledge for video games.

Along with the money, Larsen also received the opportunity to work a ten week internship at Sony Online Entertainment, which she accepted. Hundreds of women from all across the country applied for the chance at the scholarship and the employment opportunity. As both a video game fan and student, events like this keep me encouraged about the future of games.
