During PlayStation's Future of Gaming event for the PS5, Hyper Light Drifter developer Heart Machine announced Solar Ash.

Solar Ash has players exploring the Ultravoid, a dangerous rift that swallows worlds. It's up to the main character to find peace in the world and survive the Ultravoid along the way. Solar Ash also lets players defeat large monsters while also meeting characters from other worlds.

"PlayStation 5 gives us power previously unavailable in a console: we can push more lush, high-quality visuals at a much higher framerate, we can load seamlessly due to the wild speed of the SSD, and the DualSense can even provide feedback in the controller we had not known was possible," says Alex Preston, head of Heart Machine on the PlayStation Blog. "Power is all well and good, but the most exciting part is the suite of tools for more direct engagement with our audience."

Heart Machine's last game was 2016's Hyper Light Drifter which launched on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game launched on the Nintendo Switch back in 2018 during a Nintendo Nindies event.

Solar Ash wasn't the only game announced during the Future of Gaming event. Among the other major game announcements were Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Resident Evil VIII: Village, and Horizon: Forbidden West. In addition to the games, we also got a look at what the console looks like and some of the accessories that'll launch alongside it later this year.

Solar Ash launches on the PlayStation 5 sometime in 2021. While we wait for it to release, you can pick up Hyper Light Drifter on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
