Sonic the Hedgehog will be getting his own movie next year. No, I'm not kidding.
The Hollywood Reporter recently revealed that a film based on everyone's favorite blue hedgehog will soon be coming to a theater near you. The Paramount produced movie featuring Sonic will arrive on November 15, 2019.
As of now, details are rather sparse but we do know the core team who will be leading the project. Neal H. Moritz will be producing with Deadpool director Tim Miller executive producing. Joining Miller in executive producing is Toby Ascher with Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons serving as co-producers. As for the director, it'll be headed up by Jeff Fowler, who is making his directorial debut.
The biggest question left though is whether or not the Sonic film will be live-action or animated but it seems like it won't be an either/or situation. Paramount has said that they will utilize both visual styles to bring Sonic to life, which is interesting to say the very least. As of this moment, that's all there is that we know about the project.
In other video game movie news, however, Sonic's longtime rival Mario was recently revealed to receive a film of his own from the team at Illumination Entertainment. Where once Sonic and Mario squared off in the gaming space, it seems their next battle might take place at the box office. These are strange times.
