With less than a week until its official release, Sega has unveiled the opening sequence that will be featured in Sonic Mania.

Uploaded yesterday on the official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube page, the opening animation features the Sonic the Hedgehog accompanied by his companions, Miles 'Tails' Prower and Knuckles the Echidna. The trio is then seen making their way up an elevator and begin running through various levels inspired by ones featured in the game, most notably Studiopolis zone, which first made an appearance in the demo earlier this year. Towards the end of the video, Dr. Robotnik and several of his minions show up to cause some trouble for our heroes.

Unlike previous Sonic games where 3D animation was used, the entire opening sequence was done using traditional animation; similar to those Saturday morning cartoons featuring the blue hedgehog.

You can check out the opening sequence below this article. If you would like more information on the game, you can check out the latest gameplay video focusing on the game's Competition Mode, as well as a video focusing on Bonus Stages and Time Attack Mode.

Sonic Mania is set to be released on August 15th on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch and Xbox One.
