Sega launched a new trailer for the 2D retro platformer Sonic Mania, coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC on August 15.

The trailer details the bonus stages known as the levels that include the Blue Spheres that fans of the classic sonic series remember so fondly. In this mode, players will need to navigate Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles through a series of blue spheres. The goal of the level is to turn all the blue spheres red by touching them, which is easier said than done as the speed can increase on the player quite quickly.

Additionally, players are able to chose a new Time Attack mode where they'll be able to rush through levels and compete with other players for the best time. Mostly to satisfy the speed running crowd, the game will feature an online leaderboard.

There are also Special Stages where players will have to chase down UFOs to secure Chaos Emeralds. In these stages, players must collect blue spheres along the way to give their character an extra speed boost.

In case you missed it, Sega recently released new gameplay from Chemical Plant Act 2.
