Sonic the Hedgehog has been racing through the world of gaming for well over 25 years, and now that the famous SEGA mascot is making his debut on the silver screen next year, the casting process has started with one well-known actor already signed on for the project.

In a report from Variety, actor James Marsden has been confirmed to be joining the cast of the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog film, though no specific details on his role or character were revealed just yet.

Marsden is currently most well-known for his role on HBO's Westworld as Teddy Flood, and previously played Cyclops/Scott Summers in many of the films in the X-Men series, and also starred in films such as 27 Dresses and Hairspray.

News of first-ever movie starring the Blue Blur was first announced earlier this year, with director Jeff Fowler set to take on the project as his feature film directorial debut. Deadpool director Tim Miller is serving as the executive producer for the film, and while details around the film are still vague at the moment, it is known that the movie will be a mix of live-action and CGI instead of being a purely animated film.

The upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie is scheduled to release in theaters on November 15th, 2019.
