Recently, it was announced that the nearly 25 year run of Sonic Comics published Archie Comics would be coming to end. With it came confusion about what's to come for the iconic mascot.

Sega revealed today at San Diego Comic-Con that the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series will continue under IDW Publishing, beginning in 2018.

The publisher has already entered the planning stages about where the comics will take the "Blue Blur" and the rest of his friends.

“We’ve been speaking with beloved Sonic fan-favorite creators and new creators alike, and are excited to be able to spread specifics about our plans for the comic in the near future,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer.

“We are ecstatic about this partnership with IDW,” said Ivo Gerscovich, Chief Brand Officer for Sonic the Hedgehog. “We know they’ll serve as a good home for the new adventures of Sonic, his friends and foes.”

IDW Publishing is known for a rather large novel catalog containing some rather popular franchises, including: Transformers, My Little Pony, Star Trek, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Ghostbusters.

The publisher hasn't revealed the writing or artist time that will be working on the series, but more news is said to be coming soon.
