Sony: 90% of PSN Users Are Back

Today at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa in Tokyo Sony held it’s annual shareholders meeting. During the meeting Sony’s CEO Howard Stringer addressed the consequences of the hacker attack that forced the corporation to close the PSN for an extended period of time.  Stringer apologized for the concerns and issues caused by the attack, and clarified that Sony is working hard to strengthen the security of the network as much as possible. He also confirmed that 90% of the PSN user base has already returned.

Stringer explained that the company hasn’t been targeted by hackers because of inappropriate remarks by Sony executives, but simply because the corporation hasn’t taken piracy laying down, trying to actively protect it’s products and intellectual properties from those that tried to gain access to them for free. He added that cyber terrorism is on the raise globally and is targeting many businesses and organizations, and that governments should also help counter it.  He reassured the investors that Sony will defend itself and it’s intellectual properties and hired experts in order to do so.

Executive deputy president Kaz Hirai chimed in explaining that Sony isn’t taking this stance only for it’s own sake, but also to protect users, developers, retailers and the whole economy rotating around the business.

He is also one of the few surviving fans of the flight simulator genre on Earth.
