Today, Sony officially welcomes the mobile video game development team Savage Game Studios to the PlayStation Studios family as the company's latest acquisition.

As revealed by an official statement from PlayStation, Herman Hulst confirmed that Savage Game Studios will be joining PlayStation Studios and operating under the Mobile Division of the company, which works independently from the console development teams.

The statement teases that Savage Game Studios will have access to both new and existing PlayStation IPs to create new on-the-go experiences for mobile games to give them a taste of PlayStation's superior first-party franchises.

Savage Game Studios was founded back in 2020 by three developers, who have already worked on big mobile projects in other studios. The studio has not solely created a new mobile game so far, but Sony is sure of the talent and experience of the studio members.

Since the beginning of 2022, Sony has made a few bold moves that prove the company is about to go out of its console comfort zone and increase its presence on other platforms as well. Earlier this year, Sony acquired Destiny developer Bungie, which is considered a huge win for the PlayStation community as Bungie will work with Sony to bring new exclusive and multiplatform titles while keeping Destiny 2 across all platforms as before.

Also, Sony acquired Nixxes as a new member of the PlayStation Studios to solely work on the PC ports of the PlayStation games, which could clearly indicate that the Japanese publisher has more games to offer on PC in the future.

Earlier this month, Sony launched Spider-Man Remastered on PC and you can expect Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection as well as The Last of Us Part 1 Remake to arrive in the near future.

Now, it seems Sony is also eager to expand its presence on mobile as well. Sony doesn't have so many top mobile games at the moment, but the acquisition of Savage Game Studios could be the beginning of a new era on a new platform for Sony and its highly popular IPs.

Savage Game Studios head revealed in his new statement that he and his team can't wait to show fans what they have been working on, which probably indicates the work on a new PlayStation-based mobile game has already begun.
