According to a report from the most recent earnings call at Sony, the company is planning to launch 10 live-service games until March 2026. That's huge!

For most of its history, especially the last generation of consoles, PlayStation is best known for its top-notch single-player experiences: From a long-running franchise like God of War to a mid-aged series like The Last of Us, and a recently born IP such as Horizon.

PlayStation has always been committed to delivering high-quality story-driven games, though they have had good multiplayer experiences as well.

Yesterday, a surprising piece of news revealed that Sony has acquired Bungie, the successful developer behind Destiny 2, for $3.6 billion. Today, that news makes even more sense now that we know what they are preparing for!

Sony Has Big Plans for Expanding Its Live-Service, Multiplayer Portfolio in the Near Future

During today's earnings call, Sony confirmed that they are planning to launch 10 live-service games by March 2026. This means we should expect more than two multiplayer games per year from Sony on average as of now.

Currently, we know that Naughty Dog is working on a multiplayer expansion of The Last of Us. Also, London Studios seems to be working on an online PS5 experience as well, according to the job listings.

However, the much bolder move in the live-service area could come from Bungie, Sony's most recent acquisition that has already proved its success in developing live-service games with Destiny 2.

It's yet to be seen how many of the 10 games will be exclusive to PlayStation, and how many will be free-to-play.

As long as this plan doesn't hurt Sony's commitment to top-quality single-player games, it would make fans happy to see the company striving to strengthen its presence in the multiplayer genre. Something that Sony's portfolio was lacking during the PS4 era.
