Sony Confirms Which of Your PS4 Accessories Will Work on PS5
Sony confirm that headsets, cameras and move controllers will be compatible with PS5.
We’re now just mere months away from the much-anticipated launch of the PS5 this holiday season. While there are many questions still to be answered, some of which are expected to be confirmed this month, Sony has answered one. We now have clarity regarding which PS4 accessories will be available on their upcoming console.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, they shared that the following accessories would work on the PS5:
- Speciality peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games.
- The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will work on PS5 (the headset companion app is not compatible with PS5).
- The DualShock 4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work with supported PS4 games.
- Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5.
However, they did state that “not all PlayStation officially licensed or third-party peripherals/accessories may work on PS5.”
While Sony confirmed that the DualShock 4 controller would work with supported PS4 games, they added that it wouldn’t be compatible with any PS5 specific games, saying:
“we believe that PS5 games should take advantage of the new capabilities and features we’re bringing to the platform, including the features of DualSense wireless controller.”
The final accessory they confirmed further compatibility details about was the Playstation Camera:
“PlayStation Camera will work with PS5 for playing supported PS VR games. It will require a PlayStation Camera adaptor that will be provided at no additional cost to PS VR users. More details on how to get the adaptor will be announced at a later date.”
Overall this is some fairly good news coming out of Sony, with a large majority of existing accessories available across both generations. With more and more details slowly coming to light, it looks like Sony are going to start feeding us information, hopefully culminating in the rumoured event at the end of the month.
