Sony Not Holding a Press Conference at Gamescom 2015; Focus on New Titles Will Shift to Paris Games Week

With summer approaching, many of the gaming community’s biggest events such as E3 and Gamescom are on the horizon, though this year is already proving to boast many surprises in addition to Sony announcing it will be shifting its plans a bit later this summer at Gamescom.

Sony announced that the company will not be holding a press conference at this year’s Gamescom 2015 in August, with the proximity of E3 and Gamescom being so close this year urging Sony to move their major new title announcements at this year’s Paris Games Week in October, instead. The full statement from Sony on the change reads:

“We’re delighted to announce that we will be hosting an international media briefing at Paris Games Week on 27th October. With the changes this year of E3 taking place a week later and Gamescom taking place earlier, we feel that both PlayStation and the wider industry would benefit from a major news milestone later in the year, during the most important period for gaming.

“We are excited about our plans and look forward to sharing some exciting announcements. We will share more information closer to the time.”

Though the lack of big announcements from Sony at Gamescom this year is surely a big change, given that E3 is taking place one week later this year and Gamescom coming one week earlier, it’s a welcome adjustment to help spread the love in a particularly busy summer season of gaming.

Gamescom 2015 will take place in Cologne, Germany from August 5th – 9th, 2015, while Paris Games Week will take place from October 28th – November 1st, 2015.
