Tom Henderson has once again divulged insider information about the PlayStation 5 development roadmap, revealing that Sony intends to launch a new piece of hardware before the anticipated PS5 Pro (which he reported on last month). He also playfully teased that he could be revealing more juicy details about the Pro in the coming days, and that there's more hardware in the works at Sony than what's currently reported.

"I think I will be able to talk about PS5 Pro in the next couple of months, because that's when a lot more people are going to be made aware of the console," Henderson said in his stream yesterday, teasing that he'd go into more detail about the PS5 Pro in May or June, and then followed it up with the hardware tidbit: "There's also another piece of Sony hardware that will be released before the pro that I'm more likely to talk about very soon, so definitely stay tuned."

Back in September of last year, Henderson broke the news about a new PS5 hardware model. As per his report, a brand-new PS5 with a detachable disk drive is set to hit the market sometime in September 2023. While the hardware features of this upcoming console are expected to remain identical to existing PS5 models, the detachable drive will be connected to the main body via an extra USB-C port on the rear, setting it apart from its predecessor (but Henderson added that it won't feel out of place aesthetically, and will be integrated naturally into the console's mainframe).

As for what's next after that, Henderson's March report revealed that Sony will release a full-fledged PS5 pro with a hardware revision by the end of 2024. He also stated that Sony has no plans to release a PlayStation 6 until 2028, corroborated the information Jeff Grubb revealed a few days ago about Sony hosting a PlayStation Showcase in June, and mentioned that there might not be a price drop for the PS5 when the new hardware arrives.

Later in the stream, Henderson said he was aware Sony is currently expecting a big boost in sales around October and the holidays to follow, so he speculated that Marvel's Spiderman 2 could be released around the same time and also bundled with the new PS5 hardware coming out later this year.
