God of War (2018) was definitely the beginning of a new story for a highly popular PlayStation series. After a bloody adventure in Greek mythology, Kratos stepped into the world of Norse in peace, but it didn't take him too long to start new chaos.

God of War (2018) was surely a standalone story that you could enjoy even without knowing anything about the first trilogy, however, getting to know more about Kratos when he was younger and more aggressive than ever, surely doubles the joy of the Norse adventure.

That's the same situation with God of War Ragnarok. Some players might have not played the previous iteration by now, but they still want to play Ragnarok when it launches. Without knowing what Kratos and Atreus have gone through in the first game, Ragnarok might not be a quite enjoyable journey for you, and Sony knows it better than anyone else.

The animated storybook down below, narrated by Felicia Day and accompanied by Mimir's voice actor on some occasions, is a great recap of the God of War (2018) story if you haven't played it so far. Even if you have played the game, it's still incredible to watch this beautifully designed animated story.

That being said, keep in mind that the video above completely spoils the story of the game. So, if you are in the middle of the game, or you have plans to play it before Ragnarok arrives, make sure to skip the video and avoid watching it.

If you prefer reading the story rather than watching it in an animated video, Sony has also provided a written version of the recap here. Again, make sure not to open the link if you want to play God of War (2018) yourself, as it contains some images from the key moments of the game.

God of War (2018) is already available on PS4, PS5, and PC, and Ragnarok has already been confirmed for both PlayStation consoles. The PC version is not expected to arrive anytime soon, but it will probably be inside Sony's plans for the future as God of War (2018) has had an incredible financial performance on PC.
