The COVID lockdown feels like it has been going on for an eternity at this point. Within the last six months, life has shifted in such a drastic way. Masks have become the norm, social gatherings are at a minimum and Zoom calls have become part of the weekly routine for almost everybody. For the most part, these calls are mundane and could do with livening up. That's where PlayStation is trying to help out.

Many video calling apps allow users to change the background to something more exotic than their bedroom or home office and Sony is offering some nice alternatives to those. Pulling from their huge library of Playstation exclusives, they have created some awesome backgrounds to spice up your calls.

Available to download from this PlayStation Blog post, you can be the talk of the call with these high-res backgrounds. Take your call from the Island of Tsushima, risk it all sitting on a race track from Gran Turismo or chat with a giant Colossus bearing down on you from Shadow of the Colossus.

There is a huge array of backgrounds from a massive variety of games, a list of which can be found below:

  • Concrete Genie
  • Days Gone
  • Death Stranding
  • Dreams
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • God of War
  • Gran Turismo
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Ico
  • inFAMOUS
  • Little Big Planet
  • MLB The Show
  • Ratchet & Clank
  • Shadow of the Colossus
  • The Last of Us
  • The Last of Us Part II
  • Uncharted

We're now only a few short months from the PS5 launching, and this past weekend we were treated to our first proper glimpse of full gameplay footage during Gamescom Opening Night Live. Geoff Keighley introduced an almost 10-minute gameplay demo of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, where it was also revealed to be a "launch window" PS5 title. The game was also later confirmed to have an option to play at 60 FPS.

Although pre-orders are yet to go live, you can use this handy guide on where to go when they drop. And until then, grab one of the video call backgrounds and live out your PlayStation fantasies.
