Sony Starting to Sell Digital Strategy Guides on the PSN

Today, SCEJ announced that they’ll be initiating a new digital book download service that will be available on the PlayStation Store. Through this service, you can download digital copies of books that can be viewed on the PS3 or PSP. The technology used here is called “Play View”, and it apparently lets you view these high resolution images (the pages of the book) smoothly and allows panning and zoom in/out functionality. The first of such book will be a strategy guide published by Capcom for Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G.

So, we’ve had e-readers for a while now, but what do you think about easily accessible, digital strategy guides that are available right on the system you’re playing games with? I’d just like to know if you’ll be able to bring up the XMB and view the guides while in a game, otherwise what good would they be? Hit the break to check out some images of what this Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G guide looks like via this new service.
