After announcing that Raiders of the Broken Planet will be relaunched as Spacelords, independent development studio MecurySteam has today declared that their game is now available as a free to play game for current consoles and PC.
Recently, Art Director Jorge Benedito sat down in an interview to talk to DualShockers about how Once Upon a Time in the West influenced him in his artwork for Spacelords. We also conducted another interview with MercurySteam studio head, Enric Álvarez, on the changes the studio has been through and the concept behind the title.
With the transition to a free to play business model, Spacelords has undergone a complete revamp of its progression system to welcome expert players and new players, as to avoid anyone feeling left out or too overwhelmed. When starting up the title for the first time, newcomers will access one of the four available campaigns and play it to the end before beginning the next one.
Enric Álvarez, the Game Director exclaims:
“Launching Spacelords as a F2P game is a titanic endeavor for an independent studio like MercurySteam. Working on all the changes the fanbase wanted and producing four lengthy campaigns at the same time is a testament to MercurySteam’s continued commitment to Spacelords and its loyal community, and this is only the beginning – we already have plans for adding a wealth of new content to the game in the following months…”
“We are extremely grateful to the loyal fans who have supported the game so far, Spacelords is now a much better game and that is thanks to the valuable feedback from our community. The emotional 4th Campaign Launch Trailer is MercurySteam’s sincere homage to those fans.”
Spacelords is available now for free on PS4, Xbox One, Steam, and Windows 10. The fourth campaign, Council Apocalypse, is also accessible today. MercurySteam have promised that they will be steadily adding new content, characters, weapons, and skins in the following months to come.
