A New Spelunky 2 Trailer Finally Shows Off Some Gameplay
The unexpected sequel Spelunky 2 is happening for real, with gameplay of the roguelike platformer finally being shown through a new gameplay trailer.
After a surprise bombshell reveal during Paris Games Week, eager fans wanting a peek of Spelunky 2 gameplay will finally get one with this new trailer. Mossmouth Games showed off some footage, featuring Ana Spelunky, the daughter of the original Spelunky protagonist and the main character for this sequel.
Ana is joined by a whole cast of characters, including Margaret Tunnel, Colin Northward, and Roffy D. Sloth—all excellent names, I should add. These characters can all be controlled in the online multiplayer portion, new to the Spelunky games. Additionally, the trailer advertises the ability to ride mounts through the caves as you search for treasure.
The trailer highlights just how treacherous these environments are, with lava pits, traps, and enemies galore—the liquid physics for the lava look particularly impressive. Regardless of your experience (or lack there of) with the first game, this follow-up looks to have fast-paced and challenging gameplay that can appeal to all.
Check out the gameplay trailer below, and be on the lookout for Spelunky 2 when it releases on PC and PS4 sometime in 2019.
