Spider-Man: Miles Morales Will Be The Only Way to Get Spider-Man Remastered

Spider-Man Remastered will only be available if you purchase Miles Morales Ultimate Edition on PS5 or upgrading from the PS4 version.

September 23, 2020

Earlier this week it was learned that Spider-Man Remastered for the PlayStation 5 will not allow save transfers from the PlayStation 4 version of the game. The enhanced version of the game was announced alongside the most recent showing of Spider-Man: Miles Morales last week during the latest PlayStation 5 showcase. Now the situation is getting a little more hairy as apparently the remaster will not be available separately for purchase unless you get the Ultimate Edition of Miles Morales for PS5.

It was also confirmed last week that Miles Morales along with a few other first-party titles will be releasing cross-gen on PlayStation 4 even after Sony saying that that would not be the case. For those who do get the PlayStation 4 version of Miles Morales, there will be a free PS5 upgrade and those who want to purchase the remaster will be able to do so, but it cannot be purchased separately.

Here is the full statement from Sony via Kotaku:

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered is an enhanced version of Marvel’s Spider-Man, and is included as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition for the PlayStation 5. In addition, players who purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 4 can upgrade at no additional cost to the PS5 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and can take advantage of a paid-upgrade to download Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered.

There are no plans currently to offer Marvel’s-Spider-Man: Remastered as a standalone. Players with a copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 can purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition to experience Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered on PS5. Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 also will be backwards compatible on PS5.

Their statement is pretty straightforward and clear except for those who are physical PS4 owners of Miles Morales. What system will be in place for those who upgrade, but didn’t buy digitally? How will PlayStation know that they are eligible for the PS5 upgrade? Hopefully, Sony clears that up before the game’s launch on November 12. At the very least, the PS4 version will be available to play via backward compatibility on PS5.

Miles Morales will be a launch title with the PlayStation 5, but it will be out on PlayStation 4 the same day. You can pre-order both the PS5 and PS4 version over on Amazon.
