Spirit of the North, which is inspired by the beautiful landscapes of Iceland, has received a release day trailer showcasing tranquil, panoramic scenery and an endearing fox. Developer Infuse Studio announced the new trailer yesterday with a release date of November 1, 2019, as a timed exclusive on PS4 - perfect for some cozy and relaxing gameplay in front of the fire.

The third-person adventure game will see players take on the role of a fox as it makes its way through a mystic world. After awakening the slumbering Spirit of the North, players are drawn into an adventure of discovery and companionship. Players will also get the chance to investigate glacial caves, lush pastures all while solving puzzles and postulate the meaning of an ancient civilization left to its own device. It's also important to mention that the game purposefully has no dialog or narrative.

Over on the developer’s website it states: "Play as an ordinary red fox who’s story becomes entwined with the guardian of the Northern Lights, a female spirit fox. As you journey over the mountains and under red-stained skies, you’ll discover more about your companion and a land left in ruin."

The game's co-creator Tayler Christensen says, “The mellow pace of the game is intended to encourage players to slow down and ponder their environments. Only then can they come to understand their spirit companion and discover their own purpose in the mysteries of the past.”

From the trailer, Spirit of the North seems to have a lot of Journey and Abzu influence embedded into its gameplay and that's certainly not a bad thing. The trailer looks captivating and definitely one I look forward to seeing more of.

Spirit of the North will launch on PlayStation 4 November 1, 2019, and then Xbox One and PC once the timed-exclusivity with PS4 ends. Check out the gameplay trailer, below.
