London Spitfire Will Proceed to the Overwatch League Semifinals

London Spitfire win two games against the LA Gladiators with ease giving them a spot against the LA Valiant in the Overwatch League Semifinals

Today, the London Spitfire defeated the Los Angeles Gladiators twice giving them a spot against the Los Angeles Valiant in the Semifinals.

Last Wednesday, we saw the Gladiators sweep the London Spitfire giving hope to the home crowd at the Blizzard Arena. Everything was looking good for LA with the potential to see another crosstown matchup, this time with bigger cards on the table.

However, from what we’ve seen today, the London Spitfire learned from their mistakes on Wednesday sweeping the LA Gladiators not once but twice. In the first game, things were fairly competitive as we saw the Gladiators potentially prolonging the game in overtime almost making it to that second point. London was able to push LA off the payload and win the map 2-1. From then on, London took the rest of the map wins for the match bringing the series record to 1-1.

With the Spitfire in good form, the third and final match was looking really interesting. Wednesday, we saw the Gladiators outplay the Spitfire and now the opposite today. Surely, this match would last more than three games. Unfortunately for LA, it did not.

London was able to escort the payload on Junkertown while London got stuck at the choke point between the second and third points. At Lijiang Tower, the first map saw the Gladiators almost secure the point but Profit and Birdring were able to eliminate all they could and move people off the point with enough time to capture the point. The Gladiator had no chance on map two thanks to Birdring’s ability with Widowmaker. London was able to cap things off with a 5-4 win at King’s Row moving them forward into the Overwatch League Playoffs.

London Spitfire will now have to compete in the Semifinals with the number two seed, the Los Angeles Valiant, to move on to the Grand Finals held at the Barclays Center in New York. On the other side of the bracket is the Philadelphia Fusion and the first seed and home of Overwatch League MVP Jjonak, the New York Excelsior.

The Philadelphia Fusion and New York Excelsior will kick off the semifinals next Wednesday, July 18 at 5 PM Pacific. You’ll be able to stream the event on the official Overwatch League website or the Twitch channel.

If you’re getting inspired by Birdring’s crazy Widowmaker play, you can pick up Overwatch for PS4, Xbox One, and PC right now on Amazon.
