Splatoon’s Next Splatfest is Sponsored by Spongebob; Featuring First Inter-Continental Cross-Play

The latest of Splatoon’s multiplayer challenges asks you whether Spongebob or Patrick is better. Beginning next Friday — April 23rd — at 9 AM Eastern in the US, Canada, and Europe, players can take to the ink-flinging title to participate in the all-out faction war.

This isn’t the first for Splatfest’s sponsored content — seeing that Splatfest has been advertising space for properties as wide-ranging as Onigiris to Transformers. However, this will be the first time that European and American players will be able to face off directly with each other.

Splatfest is a recurring event in Splatoon hosted by the Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie, who are both seen atop their own trucks singing and dancing in a continuous loop. During this event, Inklings are able to choose between two teams, which differ from event to event and participate in battles against the other team. Inkopolis Plaza and all the stages are decorated to reflect the event, becoming nighttime and being adorned with festive lights.

The previous North American Splatfest asked players to choose between whether they prefer building snowmen or sand castles.
