Longtime fans of Splinter Cell have been begging for Ubisoft to bring back the series for years at this point. Clearly, Sam Fisher's involvement in Tom Clancy's Elite Squad wasn't enough for some. Now, it looks like Splinter Cell could once again be returning, but again, it might not be in the way that many had imagined.

In a new report from The Information, it was said that Facebook, the owner of Oculus, is looking to boost its library of exclusive games that the platform has at its disposal. As such, they have reportedly netted some exclusive deals with Ubisoft that would bring new VR games based on both Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed to Oculus in the future. Mark Zuckerberg himself has been said to be personally pushing for this and that new exclusives will lead to more sales for Oculus devices.

As of now, it's hard to know whether or not this could be true since we've only heard it from one source. Furthermore, if a deal like this has been struck recently, then it might be awhile until we actually see what these Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed titles would look like. So while this all could be true, it might take a bit until we learn more directly from Oculus or Ubisoft.

Still, I don't personally think this is a bad move for Oculus. Whether or not Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed VR games would encourage many to go out and spend hundreds on Oculus headsets remains to be seen, but pursuing more exclusives for your platform to increase sales is a good move. Exclusives, more often than not, can lead to increased hardware sales.

There's a lot left to potentially learn about this story in the future. If we hear any further development, we'll be sure to let you know.
