Coming off of 2013's excellent Splinter Cell: Blacklist, fans of the Splinter Cell series and its iconic agent, Sam Fisher, have been hoping for a new entry in the series for quite some time. With teases and hints having popped up over the past few years, fans are getting their hopes up once more thanks to a recent post from a seemingly unlikely source, the Italian voice actor for Sam Fisher.

Italian actor Luca Ward shared a new photo on his official Facebook page that has started to get fans of the Splinter Cell series riled up in the hopes of a new game reveal. For context, Ward was the Italian voice actor for Sam Fisher in several games in the series in the past.

As you can see above, the image simply features Ward and the iconic green lights of Sam Fisher's night-vision goggles, which many of speculated may be a teaser for the long-hoped-for return of the Splinter Cell series.

So: does Ward's photo confirm anything? Probably not, as his Facebook and Instagram pages have often referenced Splinter Cell in the past as some of his prior work, including the green nightvision lights seen in the background.

However, while the photo is probably just Ward sprucing up his social media pages a bit and referencing one of his notable roles, the rumors of a new Splinter Cell title being in the works has built up for some time over the past few years. Notably, former Ubisoft head Jade Raymond had said that a new design for the Splinter Cell series was in the works before she had left the company in 2014.

Likewise, Ubisoft has been keen to mention and include Sam Fisher and Splinter Cell in some capacity in other games. The most notable of these references came from Ghost Recon: Wildlands last year, where the wildly-popular shooter included a special operation event featuring Sam Fisher himself. Likewise, the infamous Walmart Canada leak from last year, which happened a few weeks before E3 2018, listed Splinter Cell among the titles available to pre-order, adding more fuel to the speculation that a new game in the series may (finally) be on the way.
