In its first of three game announcements planned over the coming three days, THQ Nordic revealed a new title that is sure to please 90s kids.

That's right, Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom is returning to modern platforms with a new Rehydrated edition of the game. The 2003 classic is considered by many to be one of the truly great licensed games ever made which makes its return here all the more exciting. While Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated will be getting a pretty great graphical update, it will also seemingly boast a few new features as well such as multiplayer.

Here's the official description from THQ Nordic:

Are you ready, kids? The cult classic is back, faithfully remade in spongetastic splendor! Play as SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy and show the evil Plankton that crime pays even less than Mr. Krabs. Want to save Bikini Bottom from lots of rampant robots? Of course you do! Want to underpants bungee jump? Why wouldn't you! Want to join forces in a brand new multiplayer mode? The battle is on!

As of now, there's still not much else that we know about Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated. The game's reveal trailer didn't feature any gameplay footage and a release window for the remake also wasn't given. That said, we do know that Purple Lamp Studios is the developer of the project and that it will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC whenever it does arrive. Furthermore, don't expect to see the game in action next week at E3 as THQ has already said it won't be appearing.

While it might be awhile until we see Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated in action, it's really exciting just to know that it's now in existence. If you'd like to check out the game's reveal trailer, you can find it below.
