Smart device gamers will be getting a surprise addition to their catalog of games as SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated makes its way to iOS and Android devices on January 21.

Purple Lamp Studios and the publisher HandyGames will be releasing the game on the App Store and Google Play for $8.99. The game will not include any microtransactions. You can take a look at the Mobile announcement trailer below.

From what I can tell from the trailer, the game looks to run pretty darn well on mobile devices. I don't think the new art style the game featured is the most demanding thing in the world so I wouldn't think that getting the game to run smoothly on mobile platforms would be that much of a hurdle to jump over.

The only issue I see with platformers ported to mobile devices is the use of touch controls. If we are able to sync and use a Bluetooth controller, everything is fine and dandy. However, 3D platformers require much more precision with their movements that touch controls never translate over very well. I would recommend using a controller if the game allows the player to use one.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated is available for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game is also playable on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S thanks to backward compatibility.
