THQ Nordic announced Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated earlier this morning and while the reveal was quite exciting, the trailer that accompanied said reveal didn't contain any gameplay footage. However, since that time, new images for the remake have now come about and show off the improved visuals that it will have.

Courtesy of the official Steam page for Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated, the first screenshots of the game have now been shown. We get to see Spongebob, Patrick Star, Sandy Cheeks, and even the King Jellyfish from Jellyfish Rock in these images. If you played the original game back in the day, then I have a feeling you be floored by these new-look visuals.

Honestly, it's kind of crazy to me that it has taken this long to get a high-caliber remake or a new installment of a licensed property like Spongebob. While I guess we did have Nickelodeon Kart Racers release last year, that game was not good whatsoever. I think the market (and especially nostalgia-prone millennials like myself) have been starved for something like Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated. Let's just hope that THQ Nordic does it justice.

You can find all of the new screenshot, the key art, and a specialized THQ Nordic logo attached in the gallery below if you'd like to look it all over in further detail for yourself. As of now, Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated doesn't have a release window to speak of, but it's slated to land on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC when it does arrive.
