The great thing about video games is that they all feel like moving art pieces with different themes constantly clashing as they form unique contrasts. Many games have fairly light tones and might even have an E rating but include characters that veer toward being a little spookier.

The characters that will be mentioned are some that are iconic in their market yet don't have much to do with the overall themes of their game. They are a sliver of creepy fun for players who like different Halloween themes mixed into their games.

10 Pumpkin Banjo And Kazooie - Banjo-Kazooie

Pumpkin Banjo And Kazooie With Mumbo Sitting

Pumpkin Banjo and Kazooie in Banjo-Kazooie is a small part of the game, both figuratively and literally. The character is not used very much though his small size allows Banjo and Kazooie to get into secret areas that they'd be too large for in the other form.

The transformation is one of the cutest in the game and gives some nice Halloween vibes to those who were lucky enough to play through the game in the Fall.

9 Jack Skellington - Kingdom Hearts

Jack Skellington

Jack Skellington in Kingdom Hearts is creepy but not in a terrifying get-away-from-me kind of way, but more so in a misunderstood guy trying to do the right thing kind of way. This dichotomy that can be seen in both his personality and his design is part of what makes his design kind of adorable.

In the Kingdom Hearts games, his story arcs are usually done in Halloween-type settings, but neither he nor the settings ever cause even a sliver of fear within the player.

8 Sans - Undertale

Sam From Undertale

Sans in Undertale is extremely special as he is one of the most lovable characters in the game or one of the most difficult to defeat. It is up to how the player chooses to take on their journey and whether they choose to be friends with Sans and his brother Papyrus.

What makes Sans slightly creepy is that he is a skeleton, but his design is not all that menacing. In fact, it's closer to the cute side of things.

7 Hero’s Spirit - The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess

The Hero's Shade Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess

Depending on how old the player is and what time of the day it is, Hero's Spirit from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess can appear as extremely menacing or be a creepy-looking friend trying to help Link out on his journey. He has a cool design and is supposed to be Link from the future, but also from a different timeline.

The lore of Hero's Spirit makes him all the more interesting as it turns him into a well-thought-out character that fits the purpose of the game's grand scheme.

6 The Snatcher - A Hat In Time

The Snatcher In A Hat In Time

The Snatcher in A Hat In Time is one of the game's main antagonists. And while the area he inhabits has an element of horror, the game is primarily a platformer before anything else. The Snatcher catches the protagonist, Hat Girl, and takes her soul. After that, he forces her to perform tasks if she wants to get her soul back.

His appearance is similar to that of a ghost, as he has a lot of ghoulish elements that accompany him. He also has a giant happy smile, though, so that takes away from his menacing tendencies.

5 Boo - Super Mario Bros

Boo In Super Mario Sunshine

Boo, in the Super Mario Bros series, is one of the cutest ghosts to have ever been made up in gaming. They perfected the art of making a non-menacing ghost, as it seems like most people could never have been afraid of him, even when they were children. His design is very simple, and his giant devious smile suits him well.

Boo is always a blast to play, as in the games he's available in, like the Mario Kart and Mario Party series. He is a wonderful spooky little guy.

4 Zappa - Guilty Gear

Zappa From Guilty Gear Series

Zappa is a character that has appeared throughout the Guilty Gear series. The character has an interesting story as he believes that he is just extremely unlucky and has a rare genetic disease that makes his legs uncontrollable. But the truth is that spirits are moving his limbs whenever they choose to.

Zappa's body can distort in weird manners, and he has different attacks that are based on the spirits controlling him. These factors make playing him a haunting yet fun character.

3 Scarecrow - Batman Arkham

Scarecrow In Batman Arkham Asylum

Scarecrow in Batman Arkham Asylum takes the action-adventure game and turns it into a nightmare. Scarecrow ends up using his hallucinogenic gas on Batman, causing him to have a bit of a meltdown when he comes to know what's real and what is not.

The boss is not horrific, but it has a much creepier theme than the rest of the game, which is saying a lot, as the game does take place in an asylum, after all. Scarecrow's design is also especially creepy as he appears to have a noose around his neck and becomes larger in hallucinations.

2 The Sorrow - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

The Sorrow In Metal Gear Solid 4

The Sorrow in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is an apparition-type boss that the protagonist, Snake, has to go up against. The boss is fought in a river, and all the enemies that Snake has killed up until this point will come back into this fight. This ensures that if the player chooses a more violent route, then this area will be more difficult.

The boss is not too difficult and not one of the largest parts of the game, but it is extremely memorable in a game that focuses predominantly on stealth combat.

1 Drowned - Minecraft

Drowned In Minecraft

Minecraft is a game known for having a much softer tone than what is presented, but these tones are often contrasted by some of the mobs that roam the areas at night. One of these mobs is not one that came with the initial game but was added in an update later to spice up fear in players. This mob is the Drowned.

The Drowned are drowned zombies that are great swimmers and will attack players who get too close to them as they are constantly hungry for flesh.
