Sports Story Becomes Latest Game to Be Delayed

Sports Story becomes the latest game to be hit by the 2020 delay train.

On a day when we got the announcement of an upcoming Nintendo Indie World Showcase, Sports Story developer Sidebar Games has decided to temper expectations a little.

The game, which excited everybody when it was revealed, was anticipated to have some more information revealed at Nintendo’s event tomorrow. However, while Sports Story was initially slated for a mid-2020 release, Sidebar Games has today confirmed that they’ve had to delay the title.

Announced back in December in a previous Indie World Showcase stream, Sports Story, which is a follow-up to 2017 smash hit Golf Story, received a special delay trailer to go alongside the news. The trailer appears to drop hints at some additional features and story beats that will come to Sports Story including dogs playing soccer and a vampire infested abandoned hotel. Of course, these could all have been added to the trailer to lighten the mood a little.

The developers shared the news on Twitter saying:

“We must sadly announce a delay. We want to take some more time to work on Sports Story and ensure that everything makes it into the game.” Before adding, “The game has become rather ambitious and we are excited about how it could turn out. But the price is currently being paid as we try to make our plans into reality. We are eager to reveal the results of these past 2 years so please look forward to future updates.”

So while it’s sad the game is getting delayed, it looks like it’s going to be worthwhile with all the additions and extra love it seems to be getting.

Sports Story joins a big list of games that have been delayed in 2020 including Halo: Infinite, Cyberpunk 2077 and Marvel’s Avengers.

In the meantime, you can check out Golf Story, which is out now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
