Following its big reveal earlier this year as the long-awaited follow-up to 2011's Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Square Enix led up to next year's release of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided with the "Augment Your Pre-Order" campaign: in light of some harsh feedback regarding the campaign, there's no longer any need for "augmenting" your pre-order in a new update from Square.

Square Enix announced this morning that the company will be canceling the "Augment Your Pre-Order" campaign for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which originally provided tiered pre-order bonuses that would unlock new content as more players pre-ordered the game, taking a similar approach to something like Kickstarter. Rewards in the pre-order campaign included an additional mission, extra skins, and the final tier being the game releasing four days early.

However, the "Augment Your Pre-Order" campaign was met with significant backlash and a highly negative response from fans, as pre-ordering the game would not give you all of the bonuses and content in each tier.

Following criticism of the pre-order campaign, Square Enix released an official statement that the "Augment Your Pre-Order" plan is no more, and users will now be receiving all of the originally-planned bonuses and incentives with pre-orders of the game, or purchases of the "Day 1" edition, explaining:

"At both Square Enix and Eidos-Montréal, we've been listening to everything you've had to say about the Augment Your Pre-Order program. When it was first conceived, we wanted the program to give you more choice about what you received in terms of pre-order incentives - because we've seen in the past that when we choose those packages ourselves, and split them across regions, it has caused frustration. We quickly noticed that this approach created even more frustration than before, resulting in a resounding amount of negative feedback.

We've spent a lot of time reading through all of your comments, working to understand how we can try to make things right for you. After much thought and reflection, we decided to close down the program and make all of the incentive content available to anyone who pre-orders Deus Ex: Mankind Divided or purchases a Day 1 edition of the game. Additionally, the release date will no longer be changed in accordance with pre-order numbers, and everyone will gain access to the game on February 23rd, 2016."

Square Enix also ensured that those that have already pre-ordered the game during this campaign will get all of the remaining incentives, as Square will provide "all of the changes to the program will be automatically applied to your purchase."

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on February 23rd, 2016.
