Square Enix Opening a new Montreal Studio

on November 21, 2011 2:30 PM

In the past year I’ve seen plenty articles on several websites claiming that Square Enix was in big trouble, near bankruptcy and needing to be “saved”, because of a couple arguably botched releases and less than brilliant yearly results. Every single time I had to giggle at the misinformation and poor research shown by those articles, as the Tokyo-based company remains one of the biggest publishers on the planet, and despite the recent losses, it’s still more financially solid than most game publishers and studios out there.

A further piece of evidence is that, in a period in which studios are closed and dissolved in the droves, Square Enix is opening a new one, based in Montreal, and plans to hire developers to staff it. The new studio, unimaginatively named Square Enix Montreal will be led by Les Singleton, that previously was at the helm of Square Enix London studio and worked on Batman: Arkham Asylum and Just Cause 2.

The new studio will has already opened an official website and an official Twitter account and will work on a new and unannounced game of the Hitman franchise. They’re already accepting resumes, so if you’re looking for a job in the Industry, you may want to send yours.
