STALKER 2 In-Engine Gameplay Reveals Protagonist and the Zone
Stif is the new protagonist who can change the world with his choices.
Earlier this year during the Xbox Games Showcase, GSC Game World revealed a haunting trailer for STALKER 2. The game has been slated for a 2021 release for Xbox Series X | S and PC, and so far we know the game looks dark and gritty as shown in the screenshots. Players can also expect the game to have ray tracing and 4K support, and now we get to see how the gameplay looks running in-engine.
The below video shows off an incredibly detailed scene in which the protagonist —that I’ll touch on shortly— is running through the Zone, an area of exclusion following the devastating explosion of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The video showcases ray traced reflections, light beams, and a bunch of particles floating around. It certainly looks as if players will be in for an intense journey.
There’s even a large falling tree, although it’s unclear if that’s just a scripted tree falling for added effect to the haunting and shifting environment, though it could also be an example of breakable trees! You know, sort of like Crysis? The trailer ends with something attacking the character and cutting to black. It’s known that there’s a new entity in the game and the developer has said that it’ll reveal more in the future.
Just before the trailer cuts to black, it also reveals the protagonist who’s named Skif. According to the developer, Skif’s actions will be shaping the non-linear world around him as he survives through the nuclear wasteland. You’ll be wandering the open-world in a first-person perspective while also incorporating simulation elements and horror. GSC Game World states that STALKER 2 is the biggest open-world to date.
While an official release date hasn’t yet been disclosed, it’s confirmed that STALKER 2 is set to be launching on Xbox Series X | S and PC, and in addition, it’ll be launching on Xbox Game Pass on consoles day 1.
