Through the magic of virtual reality, Ubisoft’s upcoming Star Trek: Bridge Crew will allow players to interact and command their own rendition of a Star Trek ship, with the title seeing a push back by a few months to further hone the experience.
Ubisoft announced in a blog post that Star Trek: Bridge Crew has been delayed to May 30th, 2017 from its originally planned release in March. No explanation or details regarding the delay have been provided by Ubisoft, but hopefully the additional time can help make the game’s VR experience even more authentic to the classic sci-fi series.
Alongside the delay of the title to May, Ubisoft also revealed that the original cast and bridge from Star Trek: The Original Series based on the USS Enterprise will be available in the game for players to explore and command, in addition to the USS Aegis that is being created specifically for the game.
Red Storm Entertainment senior creative director David Votypka explained in a statement that “the original U.S.S. Enterprise is such an iconic part of the franchise,” adding that “the adventures and relationships that took place on the ship are a special part of Star Trek history, so we were determined to give players the opportunity to create their own adventures and stories on this classic ship.”
Star Trek: Bridge Crew will release for PS4 and PC on May 30th, 2017, with the title to be available exclusively in virtual reality on PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive.
