Today, Ubisoft has released its new virtual reality game Star Trek: Bridge Crew for PC and PS4. The game is compatible with all major VR headsets -- HTV Vive, PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift -- and has also received a new launch trailer to coincide with release.

If you're unfamiliar with Star Trek: Bridge Crew, it was revealed last year during Ubisoft's E3 2016 press conference in a reveal trailer featuring Star Trek actors LeVar Burton and Karl Urban. Ubisoft today said the following about Bridge Crew when describing how it plays:

The game throws players into the Star Trek universe, taking on the role of a Starfleet officer either co-operatively online with a crew of chums (with players assigned to Captain, Engineer, Helm and Tactical roles), or alone as the Captain with an AI crew.

As well as a full story campaign, the game also features an Ongoing Voyages mode full of randomized missions allowing for endless hours of solo or co-op adventures aboard the U.S.S Aegis or the legendary U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, authentically recreated from Star Trek: The Original Series.

While AI crewmates are available, Star Trek: Bridge Crew mainly focuses on allowing you to pilot the famed Enterprise in co-op mode with your friends. Luckily, your friends don't need to own the same VR headset as you to play together. Bridge Crew promotes cross-play between platforms which means you can join up with someone who may be using their Oculus Rift on PC while you play on PS4 with PSVR.

As someone who has tried to play multiplayer VR games in the past, cross-platform play is fantastic because it helps you find a match so much quicker. Considering that there aren't tens of millions of VR headsets in the wild yet, playing across multiple platforms helps make that process of finding a game so much easier.

You can find the new launch trailer that released today below for your viewing pleasure. Star Trek: Bridge Crew is available for purchase right now for $49.99 on both PC and PS4.
