Star Trek Online: Rise of Discovery Update Has Finally Made its Way to PS4 and Xbox One

The next major update for Star Trek Online will also be unveiled at Star Trek Las Vegas this August.

Back in May, DualShockers highlighted the Star Trek Online: Rise of Discovery update that brought in new Star Trek: Discovery themed content into the long running MMO as well as some other quality of life improvements. As was previously promised by Cryptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment, Star Trek: Rise of Discovery came to the console versions of the game for free today. You can check out the update’s launch trailer below, which highlights some of the new characters and missions.

The biggest draw of Star Trek Online: Rise of Discovery is that its adds two new missions featuring Gabriel Lorca and Ellen Landry from Star Trek Discovery, with both Jason Issacs and Rekha Sharma reprising their respective roles for the game. One mission, titled The Plausibility of the Possible, sees players helping Landry and Lorca when the U.S.S. Buran is attacked. The other mission, Impossibility of Reason, has players help Ellen Landry rescue Gabriel Lorca after he is stranded on an icy moon. Tier 6 reputation has also been added.

If you followed the expansion’s PC launch though, you already knew all of that. Thankfully, Perfect World Entertainment also detailed some console exclusive even for Star Trek Online as well as the game’s convention appearances for the rest of 2019 today. Between July 2 and October 4, exclusive Tardigrade Combat Pet and Assault Drone Vanity Pet color variants will be available to PS Plus and Xbox Gold members, as are three Master Keys. As for events, Cryptic Studios plans on revealing Star Trek Online’s next major update at Star Trek Las Vegas 2019 during a panel; then, at the San Francisco Giants’ Star Trek Night on August 26 will have a Star Trek Online developer meet up and a Captain’s Chair photo opportunity based on the game.

Some new screenshots were shown off to coincide with the console release, so you can check those out below. Star Trek Online: Rise of Discovery is now available across PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
