In the wake of LucasArts’ closure, Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, and the subsequent deal made with EA to exclusively produce Star Wars games for the next 10 years, hopes for Star Wars 1313‘s eventual release dwindled. This latest development has strengthened the possibility that the ¬†game will not come to fruition in any recognizable form.

It has been confirmed by The Escapist that just before the new year, Disney, “Abandoned,” the trademark for Star Wars 1313, “because no Statement of Use or Extension Request timely filed after Notice of Allowance was issued.” However, this does not preclude the possibility that the game may be reworked or rebranded, or its assets and/or storyline utilized in another Star Wars game.

EA’s current framework for Star Wars includes Star Wars: Battlefront, currently being developed by DICE, an unannounced game being developed by BioWare and Mass Effect‘s Casey Hudson, and a plethora of acknowledged but unannounced titles at the aforementioned developers as well as Visceral.
