Dice announced its next Star Wars Battlefront 2 update, which launches on April 29, 2020, will be its last content update. It was also confirmed Dice plans to release the next Battlefield game next year.

In a blog post, Creative Director Dennis Brännvall detailed everything coming to the next Star Wars Battlefront 2 update titled The Battle on Scarif. While this may be the last regular content update for the shooter, Dice confirmed there will still be online support for the game.

"Looking beyond April, we’re transitioning to a phase where the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events such as Double XP and more, and game support will carry this broad and rich Star Wars gaming experience into the future," says Brännvall in the post. "This means that we’re moving away from delivering regular content updates. As the game lives on with the players and our community, we’re looking forward to hearing your stories for years to come."

The Battle on Scarif update will bring Scarif to a variety of modes and new The Rise of Skywalker-based looks for Rey, Kylo Ren, and Emperor Palpatine. Additionally, eliminating 5,000 enemies will get you the mechanical legged Old Master Darth Maul appearance. There is also a "hooded look" for Rey that will be unlocked by "uncovering the mystery on Takodana."

This announcement comes shortly after Dice revealed its final standalone update for Battlefield 5 will be coming this summer. As of now, the current chapter Into the Jungle will end tomorrow, on April 29, 2020.

With both Dice games ending its regular content drops by this summer, one may assume the developer is shifting its resources to its next new release. It was confirmed last year that the next Battlefield game would launch sometime in 2021 or 2022. According to a statement made to IGN by an EA spokesperson, the next Battlefield experience is set for a 2021 launch. "Longer term, the studio is focused on the future of Battlefield that we'll be bringing to players in 2021."

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
